William Fay, MD

William Fay, MDWilliam Fay, MD, is the Director of the Division of Cardiology at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he holds the J.W. and Lois Winifred Stafford Distinguished Chair in Diabetes and Cardiovascular Research.  Prior to coming to the University of Missouri in 2004 Dr. Fay was a member of the faculty of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Michigan for 14 years.  He completed his cardiology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, his residency in internal medicine at the University of Michigan, and his MD and BS degrees at the University of Illinois.  Dr. Fay has a long-standing basic science research interest in blood coagulation, thrombosis, and fibrinolysis, with particular interests in plasminogen activator inhibitor-1, tissue factor, and the use of mouse models to study thrombosis and the vascular response to injury.  Dr. Fay also is active as a clinical cardiologist, maintaining a particular interest in anticoagulant therapy.
