Announcing TransMed2009

Elsevier's Biochemical Pharmacology and Drexel University College of Medicine are pleased to announce Translational Medicine 2009: Transitioning Success in Cardiovascular and Oncology Translational Medicine to the CNS Drug Discovery.

The 2009 event will be taking place in Phildelphia in September 2009.

The present meeting is aimed at addressing the basic science of translational medicine focused on essential components of a complex network of activities that will eventually lead to the successful and reliable translation of preclinical data into clinical results.

Translational medicine thus focuses on the major preclinical and clinical issues relevant to the success of pharmaceutical (small molecule or biologic) or medical device/diagnostic innovations that include: target validation and risk assessment; biomarker development and predictive efficacy and toxicity all of which are key to facilitating early human trial design in order to guide objective go/ no go decisions.

Transitioning Success in Cardiovascular and Oncology Translational Medicine to the CNS Drug Discovery Area is intended to provide a practical background to this emerging field of science and to review successes - and failures - in the oncology and cardiovascular arenas and how these can be practically used in the CNS area.

This meeting, organized by Drexel University and Biochemical Pharmacology, and supported, in part, by Elsevier, will be held in Philadelphia, PA in September, 2009.

With the focus on the science, rather than the technology, of translational medicine and a distinguished faculty, it is anticipated that Transitioning Success in Cardiovascular and Oncology Translational Medicine to the CNS Drug Discovery Area will represent a seminal event in defining and driving the science of translational medicine.
